     Post op

Day 1-3

Weeks

  •      Wean off sling over first 3 weeks
  •      Passive table slides
  •      Progress active assisted (closed chain) exercises as tolerated
  •      Scapula setting & axillary hygiene
  •      Neck, elbow, wrist & hand exercises

3-6 Weeks

  •      Progress to AROM movement as able
  •      Begin rotator cuff strengthening
  •      Posterior complex stretching
  •      Begin proprioceptive exercises

6 Weeks +

  •      Ensure posterior capsule mobility
  •      Manual therapy to eliminate any stiffness
  •      Progress to sports specific rehabilitation

 

 

         Milestones

Week 6

     Full active elevation

Week 12

     Full AROM with dynamic scapula stability through range

Return to Functional Activities

 

Driving 3-6 weeks

Swimming Breaststroke - 3 weeks

Freestyle - 6 weeks

Golf 6 weeks

Contact Sport e.g. Horse riding, rugby, football, martial arts, racquet sports and rock climbing: 6-12 weeks

Lifting Begin light lifting at 3 weeks, avoid heavy lifting for 3 months

Work Sedentary - As tolerated

Manual - 6-12 weeks
